Bioregionalism

Bioregionalism is a complicated word for the most basic of principles.  Basically championing your own local community for it’s ability to produce the majority of the required goods and services required by that local community, thereby reducing the unneccessary waste of resources caused by regional, national and international transportation, it seems logical enough.  The problem is the stranglehold of supermarkets, the worldwide inequalities in wages and the distribution of natural resources worldwide.  Through local organic farming, permaculture, farmers markets, LETS schemes and other decentralising forms of trade and networking our entrenched waste based present system can be transformed.  Of course we cannot always get what we need from a locally sourced producer, but the idea is that wherever possible, that is what we should do.
